Mt.Kanmuri
A mountain on the border with Gifu PrefectureA 1257-meter high mountain on the border with Gifu Prefecture. One of the 300 Mountains of Japan and also selected as one of the 100 Natural Scenic Areas of Japan to be Preserved in the 21st Century. You can go as far as the ridge below the peak on a bicycle at an elevation of around 1000 meters, and hike to the peak from there in around two to three hours. The rock face is somewhat sheer for the final portion of the hike and you use a rope to climb meaning that it is popular as a way to get a taste of authentic hiking on a comparatively low elevation mountain. Around the peak, you can see alpine plants such as Nikko day lilies, fringe bells, and Gentiana thunbergii. For hiking from late May when the no-pass order is lifted until early June, snow remains in the shaded areas.
